Headquartered in Vancouver, BC, VoltSafe is a Canadian tech startup that has reinvented the pronged electrical plug, with the first ever prong-less magnetic plug for high power. In 2015, using ground-breaking, patented Canadian technology, they created the world’s safest, simplest, and smartest plug design since electricity came into homes more than 140 years ago. In 2018, VoltSafe pitched on Dragons’ Den, receiving three offers above ask and won the BC Cleantech Newcomer award at GLOBE Cleantech 2020. Its first product to market is VoltSafe Winter (magnetic plug for block heaters). The company’s product pipeline includes magnetic plug replacement solutions for household, commercial, marine, electric vehicles and more. What distinguishes VoltSafe from the pack is its dedicated family of staff who both work hard, and play hard.
As VoltSafe’s Ship Skipper, Trevor states that entrepreneurship is like a box of chocolates, you never know quite what you’re gonna get from one day to the next. It’s so dynamic that the only thing he does know is that it will consume you and you will consume it. He loves the team culture and diversity VoltSafe has collectively been built upon.

James’ main responsibility is the creation and development of new product form factors for future products. His passion for creating the look and feel of new disruptive products is what inspires him to work hard everyday. He is an avid athlete and spends his spare time lifting weights along with being a huge Oregon Ducks football fan.
Shahbaj’s areas of focus include power electronics and hardware design. Being able to utilize his Masters’ experience in a fast growing, dynamic company such as VoltSafe is what motivates him each day. He loves taking his dog Shadow for walks to chase every squirrel that catches his eye.
Hélmiton joins the VoltSafe team as a Senior Embedded Engineer and is responsible for ensuring the maturity of software development processes, translating requirements and features of products/services into measurable data. Hélmiton loves the collaboration between teammates and the overall friendly vibe, that upon his arrival, exceeded expectations. Hélmiton hails from Olinda, a colonial town on Brazil’s northeast coast, born and raised, and loved always being near beautiful Brazilian tropical beaches. Who wouldn’t? His other love is for dark chocolate (must be 70%). Hélmiton would love to travel Europe, likely through the Southern Europe Peninsulas, or take a road trip through California’s Pacific Coast Highway. He would most like to meet and chat with Stephen King, thinking his prowess as an incredible author would rub off and he could maybe learn a thing or two about storytelling and writing.
George’s core job is to build new features and software products across the VoltSafe tech stack. He loves the teamwork and exciting tech VoltSafe is developing daily. Citing his favourite snack as being Reese’s peanut butter cups, George also has a random superstition – he has to step evenly with each foot on concrete slabs along a sidewalk. George wants to travel Europe in the near future. In his spare time, when not perusing Youtube, he loves gaming, motorcycles and catching up on zzz’s.
Keenan’s primary focus is on analog circuit design, designing and testing our new tech making it as reliable, robust, and safe as possible. Keenan loves the freedom of being able to invent creative solutions to issues instead of following status quo. In spare time, Keenan loves to read, ride bikes, and wander alleyways in search of discarded microwaves and other electronics, pilfering their precious metallic internals for use in some weird project. As a child his birth mother left him abandoned on the front step of VoltSafe. Although apprehensive at first, the hardware engineers took him in as their own and raised Keenan, teaching him the ways of our kind.
Fariha develops, tests and maintains firmware for prototypes and current products and more. She loves the supportive workplace culture and finds the job fulfilling, noting that getting to work with some of the most talented, hilarious individuals helps her learn on a daily basis. And, the doggos – Fariha loves the VoltSafe office doggos the most. Fariha is also a talented singer, loves to paint, read, and write in her spare time. She also enjoys solving sudoku puzzles (or just any puzzle, really).
Thomas’ core responsibilities revolve around product testing and instrumentation, including building a machine to ensure that VoltSafe products are up to industry specs. Thomas loves the freedom and trust Voltsafe shows to pursue projects in his own way, allowing for the ability to problem-solve creatively and build out ideas to completion. In spare time, Thomas tinkers with projects, from building a daft punk helmet to learning the electric bass. An avid reader and walker by nature, Thomas also loves new ideas – he writes them down or shares them out loud (a strategy that keeps him thinking and also scored him a free pickle at a bar once). The weirdest thing he ever brought on a bus was a 70-inch by 50-yard roll of fabric (and he does NOT recommend). Twix, the colour green, and his family’s dogs back home in Okotoks, are just a few of Thomas’ fave things.
Adam has an integral role within the hardware engineering team designing the electrical systems for future product prototypes. He loves the company culture, citing it as one that is super welcoming and friendly. Everyone is an approachable and genuine person. His fave Instagram page is of course, VoltSafe’s! But a close second place is the Youtuber “Binging with Babish’s” channel. His favourite snack is the infamous Mr. Big candy bar. A long time ago, Adam once got a super sized Mr..Big while Trick or Treating in elementary school around Halloween. Being a good kid, he knew he wasn’t allowed to eat that much candy in a single sitting, rather, over multiple sittings. But, being a mischievous 2nd grader, Adam snuck the whole thing into his room and ate it all at once. So to this day, Adam’s favourite chocolate bar is probably that specific Mr. Big. His favourite vacation spot is at his friend’s farm in the Gulf Islands. Sadly, since he can only go when his buddy invites him over, he’s asked us to put forth this public request: If you have a farm in the Gulf Islands for Adam to vacation on, please contact him directly.

VoltSafe Headquarters would not be nearly as efficient nor organized if not for Nazar who works tirelessly to get endless tasks done. When he does have a weekend to enjoy some down time, he tries to figure out the Top 3 Bosnian songs of all time or watches medieval battle re-enactments. His weekends will commonly be described it as “good enough” and as the busiest guy at VoltSafe and a man of few words, it’s also why his bio is this brief too.
